Summer reading is important — so we've a great offer

Summer reading is an important, enjoyable activity that students can do during the summer holidays to help avoid the summer slide in reading levels.

We're offering schools an extra summer reading borrowing option again this year, over and above your term allocations.

• Simply let us know what you or your ākonga would like to read, and we'll send you a range of engaging books, including high-interest fiction, non-fiction, picture books and graphic novels.

• And this year, if you're in Auckland or Christchurch, you can visit our centres and choose your own books!

• Our summer reading books are due back to us by 8 April 2024. We know that’s a long time away, so don’t worry if you can’t find all the books to send back straight away — that means someone, somewhere, is enjoying reading!

Tell us what books you'd like

Write an email, telling us:

• the name of your school and the school’s Ministry of Education number

• the name of a contact person in your school who'll receive the loan, and their contact phone number and email address

• how many books you'd like us to send you

• the formats you'd prefer — picture books, novels, non-fiction, all formats, etc

• the age range of the students you are requesting for — or tell us if you are requesting for yourself and for other kaimahi (staff) in your school.

We'll send a mixed selection of the best, most engaging books we have in our collection.

Come to our centres and choose your books

Choose summer reading books for yourself, your kaimahi or ākonga from collections in our Auckland or Christchurch Centre. Our centres are open by appointment. Below are the addresses and times you can come.

Auckland Centre

Address: 8 Stanley Street, Parnell, Auckland.

The centre will be open on these days and times:

• 13 November to 15 December, Monday to Thursday, 10am to 4pm.

Christchurch Centre

Address: Unit 7/150 Cavendish Road, Casebrook.

The centre will be open on these days and times:

• 13 November to 15 December, Monday to Thursday, 10am to 4pm.
