John McGlashan College, Dunedin
John McGlashan College is a Year 7-13, integrated secondary school for boys. It has a roll of approximately 500 day and boarding students.
The three-storey Edgar Learning Centre (incorporating the JN Lemon Library on the first floor) was completed in February 2008. The Centre fully integrates the library, classrooms, flexible learning spaces, a boardroom, dance and drama studio, common room, offices for senior school staff, rooms for independent research, peer reading and designated ICT areas.
The Edgar Learning Centre itself is a re-development of an established historic building previously known as Balmacewan House, which was part of the College's boarding accommodation. A new, three storey glass extension was added to the back of the building, and this northwest-facing extension now overlooks the school playing fields, tennis courts and Balmacewan golf course.
The JN Lemon Library features advanced air conditioning and lighting while each designated learning space comes equipped with a data projector. Shelving and furniture are mobile, allowing it to be easily shifted and rearranged to create flexible learning and activity spaces.
