Joining the Cataloguing-in-Publication (CiP) programme

The Cataloguing-in-Publication (CiP) programme is for all publishers in New Zealand. Large, medium, and small commercial publishers as well self-publishers are all welcome to use our services to create a prepublication record.

We supply a typescript of the completed catalogue record which can be printed in the book itself. The catalogue record is also submitted to Publications New Zealand, where it can alert both national and international book selectors to the existence of upcoming titles. If you have cover images for your title we are able to upload these to Publications New Zealand enhancing the attractiveness of your catalogue entry.

International publishers can join the programme if the book is published in New Zealand and not just distributed here.

Once the book has been received by the Legal Deposit Office the catalogue record is upgraded to a full catalogue entry.

Applying for a CiP record

We recommend you apply for a CiP record three months ahead of publication. The earlier you apply, the more likely you are to receive pre-publication orders. We will return the CiP data to you within three working days.

Once you are a member of the CiP programme, you can apply for a CiP record online, or by sending us a printed copy of the application form by mail or fax. Please complete a separate form for each title.
