One of the new features on the National Library’s homepage is a magnifier that allows you to look at the details of an object from our collections.

The magnifier feature is a Flash program. Due to a bug in Internet Explorer 7 (IE7), some users who have upgraded to IE7 may have difficulties viewing Flash content if they have an older version of Flash. This bug is also causing a slow homepage download for some IE7 users.

There are two ways to fix this problem:

  1. If you see the prompt on our homepage to download a new version of Adobe Flash Player, accept this prompt. The latest version of Adobe Flash Player will be installed on your system
  2. If you don’t see the prompt on the homepage, you can visit the Adobe website to uninstall any old version of Flash Player you may be using, and reinstall the latest version.

For users, here is a fix that seems to work well:

  1. Quit all open programs. This step is important because other programs may be using the Flash Player, and if they are, the uninstaller will fail silently.
  2. Run the Adobe Flash Player Uninstaller.
  3. Reinstall your Flash player.
