Women's Land Service in World War Two
Land girls during the Second World War made an important contribution by keeping New Zealand farms operating while men were away fighting overseas.
This was the first time women were in paid employment on farms. It had a transformative effect on the employment of women in New Zealand.
This photograph shows June Matthews, a land girl, helping a farmer to ear mark a lamb in 1943.
