Apple growers’ demonstration in 2005
Apples are a major horticultural export in New Zealand. However since 1921 the New Zealand apple industry have been unable to export produce to Australia because of the presence of fireblight. Apple growers have been protesting against this ban since the mid-1980s.
This photograph by Dylan Owen depicts Apple growers lobbying the government to call for an end to the ban in June 2005.
