Rehabilitation of returned servicemen
The New Zealand government was aware that a successful rehabilitation of soldiers would assist the rapid post-war recovery of the nation from the effects of war.
Many men returned to their pre-war occupations. But for those where that was not possible, new employment needed to be found. The government established training and re-educational facilities to assist this process, and private companies such as the Bristol Piano Company in Christchurch offered returned men employment in their repair workshops.
