The New Zealand Cartoon Archive forms part of the Alexander Turnbull Library Drawings, Paintings and Prints collection.
The Archive includes:
- cartoons and caricatures by and about New Zealanders, especially on politics and social life
- copies of newspaper cartoons from about 1990 to the present, by cartoonists such as Tom Scott, Garrick Tremain, and Bob Brockie
- the original cartoon drawings of Nevile Lodge, Eric Heath, Peter Bromhead and others
- original cartoon drawings from the first half of the 20th century
- a selection of late 19th century New Zealand cartoons and caricatures.

Search for descriptions of cartoons and items from the New Zealand Cartoon Archive using TAPUHI. About 80 percent of the collection is described online.
Access copies of items in the collection through Turnbull Library Pictures on the ground floor of the Library. Both black and white, and coloured copies of items are available there.
Digital copies of selected items are on Timeframes, our online database of heritage images.
You can view original cartoons and caricatures in the Cartoon Archive on the second floor of the Library. We provide a one-on-one service so it’s best to make an appointment before you visit.
