Planned changes to collection access
Our collections will be relocated while the Library building in Wellington is being redeveloped. During the relocation period, some collections will be available in two temporary locations: Archives New Zealand and a location on Thorndon Quay.
Relocation period availability:
- Microfilm and digital copies of newspapers in this collection will continue to be available at Thorndon Quay.
- Most original items in this collection will be unavailable.
- Some original materials will be available through the Client-Held Collection at Archives New Zealand.
We expect to finalise the dates of the relocation later in 2009. We will give you at least one month’s notice of collection access changes and closures.

Access items in this collection
Search for descriptions of newspapers in this collection using the National Library Catalogue (include the phrase 'New Zealand newspapers' for better results).
Newspapers are available in the newspaper reading room on the lower ground floor of the Library. We don’t issue original newspapers if they are too fragile or if there is a microfilm copy available.
The microfilm collection is self-service. Original papers need to be requested. Requests can be made to the Turnbull Research Centre in person, by phone, mail, or email.
Digital copies of selected early New Zealand newspapers and periodicals are available on Papers Past. Māori niupepa are on the New Zealand Digital Library's website.
