The Archive of New Zealand Music forms part of the Alexander Turnbull Library Manuscripts Collection.
Styles and genres include classical, popular, opera, ethnic, rock, jazz, band, country, and folk. All music in the collection is composed or performed by New Zealand musicians.
Important collections include those of composers Douglas Lilburn and Sir William Southgate, musicologist John Mansfield Thomson, pop singer Dinah Lee, pop group the Avengers, pianists Paul and Diny Schramm and the Dennis Huggard Jazz Archive.
Music organisation archives include those of the Composers' Association of New Zealand, Wellington Folk Centre, Chamber Music New Zealand, and the Wellington Operatic Society.
There is a wide range of recordings including performances at the Cambridge Summer Schools of Music, the New Zealand Opera Company, copies of the Concert FM New Zealand Composer Tape Archive, contemporary rock music and early Rarotongan chant.
The Archive was established in 1974 at the suggestion of the composer Douglas Lilburn.

The Library’s building redevelopment
The Library building in Wellington is closed for redevelopment, and due to reopen in August 2012. During the relocation period, some collections are available in two temporary locations: Archives New Zealand and a reading room at 77 Thorndon Quay.

- Sound and video material such as tapes and unpublished discs will not be available unless a listening copy or viewing copy has already been made.
