National Library of New Zealand Conservation Guidelines
The Conservation Guidelines provide a framework and standards for programmes and projects to preserve Library documentary heritage collections, and make sure they are accessible to New Zealanders in the future as well as today.
National Library of New Zealand Copying Guidelines
The Copying Guidelines provide a framework and standards for the copying of the Library documentary heritage collections for both access and preservation. These guidelines ensure that copying projects and services are efficient, but also do not damage collections.
Public Libraries of New Zealand: A Strategic Framework (2006 to 2016)
Public Libraries of New Zealand: A Strategic Framework 2006 to 2016. Addresses the challenges that public libraries face in meeting the demands of the future. It is the result of consultation and collaboration between libraries, local government, central government and other stakeholder groups. The development of the Strategic Framework has been steered by New Zealand’s public libraries (represented by Library and Information Association of New Zealand Aotearoa (LIANZA) and MetroNet Inc), and the National Library of New Zealand, with input from Local Government New Zealand, Society of Local Government Managers, Department of Internal Affairs and Te Rôpû Whakahau (Mâori in libraries and information).
Collections Policy

The policy ensures that the significant record of New Zealand and Pacific cultural heritage/taonga is collected and preserved for all New Zealanders and is easily accessible.

Te Kaupapa Mahi Tahi – A Plan for Partnership 2005-2010 guides the National Library in developing mātauranga Māori and effective partnerships with Māori.

Collection Protection Framework
The Collection Protection Framework ensures collections are appropriately protected at all times.
The framework sets out:
- Principles and requirements that apply to all aspects of collection protection e.g. governance, assurance, management of risk
- Principles specific to the storing, moving, accessing and exhibition/display of a collection.
