Digital Innovation Services is the National Library's IT and technology group, and is made up of three business units: Digital Solutions, the Innovation Centre, and Technology Services.

Digital Solutions

Digital Solutions provides customer support for users of the National Library’s electronic services. This includes:

  • managing the National Library’s website
  • business analysis for the continual development of web and digital initiatives
  • maintaining a client relationship management strategy, including account managers
  • managing collaborative projects with other cultural and heritage institutions
  • promoting services through publications, training, and subscribers' web pages
  • producing the New Zealand Library Symbols Directory.

Innovation Centre

The Innovation Centre is the Library’s digital research and development hub. Staff work with colleagues from the Library, from New Zealand and from around the world on projects dedicated to creating, sharing and preserving digital information using world-class tools and methods. The Innovation Centre’s work includes:

  • conducting the Library's digitisation programmes, such as Papers Past
  • collaborative online projects such as the National Digital Forum
  • the development and implementation of methods for acquiring, describing and delivering all types of digital objects, including digitally-born material
  • researching and implementing new technological processes, for example web harvesting, automated metadata extraction and optical character recognition (OCR)
  • ensuring the Library is a leader in international developments in the field of digital preservation.

The National Digital Heritage Archive (NDHA) project team is part of the Innovation Centre. Once operational, the NDHA will enable the National Library to meet its mandate to collect, make accessible, and preserve in perpetuity New Zealand’s digital heritage.

Technology Services

Technology Services is responsible for developing and maintaining the National Library's digital infrastructure and for ensuring the ongoing availability of production systems and databases. This includes:

  • search, and interloan software
  • web services
  • LAN and WAN support
  • desktop support and application support
  • Help Desk services.
