5 November 2007 NZ Poet Laureate Award

A New Zealand Poet Laureate Award funded by the Government will recognise writers who have made an outstanding contribution to New Zealand poetry.

This award of $50,000 replaces the Te Mata Poet Laureate scheme and will be administered by the National Library.

The Poet Laureate's working papers and published work will be preserved for posterity in the National Library’s National Digital Heritage Archive and in the collections of the Alexander Turnbull Library.  The first New Zealand Poet Laureate will be announced in December.
