26 February 2009: Discover your heritage this March at Family History Month
The National Library of New Zealand invites you to uncover your heritage with the launch of Family History Month, 2 - 28 March 2009. Family History Month will be celebrated with a daily programme of events at the National Library of New Zealand brought to you by the Wellington branches of the New Zealand Society of Genealogists (NZSG).
"Discovering your family history is a truly rewarding and somewhat addictive pursuit. Family history month is a wonderful opportunity for us to pool our resources, learn from other researchers and most of all enjoy the company and camaraderie of fellow genealogists and enthusiasts" said Marlene Sayers, Kilbirnie Branch of NZSG.
The programme includes guest speakers, displays, workshops, advice and tours of the National Library and other Wellington repositories. Guest speakers include renowned genealogist Jan Gow, writer and historian Jock Phillips and Ngaio Press founder John MacGibbon.
Each week the programme will have themed activities:
- 2 - 7 March : Introduction to Family History, Getting Started
- 9 - 14 March : New Zealand, Maori, Australia
- 16 - 21 March : England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland
- 23 - 28 March : Special Topics (Military, Adoptions, Shipping, Publishing)
