Call for nominations

The Honourable Dr. Richard Worth, Minister Responsible for the National Library of New Zealand, is seeking nominations for people to take up appointments on two advisory bodies:

  • Library and Information Advisory Commission/Ngā Kaiwhakamārama i ngā Kohikohinga Kōrero
  • Guardians Kaitiaki of the Alexander Turnbull Library.


The Library and Information Advisory Commission / Ngā Kaiwhakamārama i ngā Kohikohinga Kōrero advises the Minister on:

  • library and information issues in New Zealand, including mātauranga Māori, and access to library and information services;
  • the role of library and information services, including mātauranga Māori, in the cultural and economic life of New Zealand; and
  • any other matters requested by the Minister.


The Guardians Kaitiaki advise the Minister on:

  • capacity of the Alexander Turnbull Library to acquire documents to be used for the purposes of research, scholarship, or mātauranga Māori, or by other libraries and the people of New Zealand;
  • the provision of services to enable access and research using the collections of the Alexander Turnbull Library;
  • the appropriate and adequate protection of the collections of the Alexander Turnbull Library;
  • adequacy and suitability of the housing and preservation of the collections of the Alexander Turnbull Library; and
  • other matters relating to the Alexander Turnbull Library

The term of appointment is for up to three years. The advisory bodies meet at least three times per year. Fees for attendance at meetings and travelling allowances are paid.

Nominations close on 2 June 2009.

Nominees must have relevant special knowledge or qualifications and the bodies will comprise a balanced representation of gender, ethnicity, age and geography.
