Our customers have asked us to make it easier to search across all our collections in one place. Our first step towards achieving this was the launch of the Find website, a single place to search across multiple National Library websites and catalogues, in July 2009.

During 2009/2010 we are making a series of changes to bring a number of our websites closer together in Find. These changes will include merging some existing websites completely into Find.

9 November 2009: Upgrade of Matapihi website

Matapihi http://www.matapihi.org.nz is a website where you can search pictures, sounds and objects from New Zealand's archives, galleries, libraries and museums. It is a collaborative site hosted by the National Library, and filled with data from partner organisations all over New Zealand.

We have worked with Matapihi partner organisations to upgrade Matapihi, making it faster and easier to use. Matapihi is now powered by Digital New Zealand.

From 9 November 2009 you will see the upgraded version of Matapihi at http://matapihi.org.nz

Changes you will see:

  • Faster search
  • New filtering options
  • Updated collection data
  • Lucky dip, advanced search, and the intermediate details view page have been removed.

Further functionality (such as advanced search) will be added to Matapihi over time. Most Matapihi data can also be searched in Find.

9 November 2009: Upgrade of findNZarticles website

findNZarticles http://findnzarticles.natlib.govt.nz allows you to search newspaper and journal articles indexed by a number of New Zealand libraries and research organisations. It is a collaborative service hosted by the National Library.

We have worked with partner organisations to produce a upgraded version of findNZarticles that is faster and easier to use.

From 9 November 2009 you will see the upgraded version of findNZarticles at http://findnzarticles.natlib.govt.nz

You will see:

  • Faster search
  • New filtering options
  • Updated catalogue data
  • You will be able to access some articles online, and see which New Zealand libraries have copies of the journal articles are published in.

All findNZarticles data can also be searched in Find.

9 November 2009: PublicationsNZ website merge with Find

PublicationsNZ is a record of New Zealand publications listed in the National Bibliography.

All PublicationsNZ data has been searchable through Find since July 2009. The search experience in Find is faster than the existing site and offers new filtering options.

On 9 November we turned off the PublicationsNZ website. Find became the only place to search PublicationsNZ data.

There is a special 'view' so you can search just PublicationsNZ data within Find. The view has an entry page replacing the old homepage.

  • Search limited to New Zealand publications
  • Faster search
  • New filtering options
  • Online form to generate reports
  • RSS feed
  • The browse option has been removed.

Early November 2009: Preview of Timeframes website change

Timeframes http://timeframes.natlib.govt.nz is a website for searching the digitised unpublished collections of the Alexander Turnbull Library (primarily pictorial items).

We have worked with the Alexander Turnbull Library to produce an upgraded version of Timeframes that is faster and easier to use.

You will see:

  • Faster search
  • New filtering options
  • Ability to add tags and comments
  • The browse option will be removed.

All Timeframes data can also be searched in Find.

Early November 2009: Preview of Discover website merge

Discover http://discover.natlib.govt.nz is a database of multi-media items selected for use by New Zealand schools.

All Discover data has been searchable through Find since July 2009. The search experience in Find is faster than the existing site and offers new filtering options.

In late November we will turn off the Discover website. Find will become the only place to search Discover data.

We will be creating a special 'view' so you can search just Discover data within Find. The view will have an entry page replacing the old homepage. We will provide a link to the preview entry page here when it is live.

From the Discover entry page on Find you will see:

  • Full listings of Music and Visual Arts Curriculum topics with automated searches for digital resources
  • Information for teachers
