PSA

A term in bookbinding. Vellum, textile, or paper attached to the inside face of the upper and lower boards of a book after it has been covered.
Patron
Person who uses the Library.
Periodical
Magazine, journal etc published at regular intervals.
Permanent retention
Collection items that are lastingly held.
Perpetuity
Common term that refers to collections kept for an unlimited period.
Photolithograph
Print on paper produced using ink on a smooth surface (typically stone). The ink is transferred to the printing surface by photographic methods.
Plan print
Architectural plans in printed form, including blueprints.
Policy
Written principle or rule to guide decision making, or a plan of action.
Portfolio
Areas of responsibility of a particular government minister.
Preservation
All of the actions that are taken to extend the life of an item or collection of items. Includes handling, storage and copying of items as well as the policies and protocols relating to them.
Print disabilities
Difficulties reading printed text because of blindness, severe impairments to sight, certain learning disabilities, and other disability.
Private collection
Collection owned by an individual or family rather than a public institution like a library.
Private papers
Papers (which may be documents, photos, sound recordings and so on) created and kept by individuals and families as part of their private rather than public life.
Probate
Legal process of recording a will with the court.
Probate index
Index (or list) of probate records. Probate records are records created in the process of settling the estate of someone who has died.
Published items or material
Items like books, magazines, postcards, sound recordings and so on that have been published or made publicly available. Contrast to unpublished material.
