OPAC
Acronym standing for Open Public Access Catalogue.
Object management system
Database to store, manage, and deliver digital files. The Library's object management system will become part of the National Digital Heritage Archive (NDHA).
Off-line publication
An electronic publication that is not an internet document. Includes electronic documents  stored or used by means such as magnetic media (like floppy disks or videotape), optical media (like CDs and DVDs) and electronic storage devices (like memory cards).
Off-site storage
Storage areas in locations outside the Library, where items that are not used regularly are kept. It takes about four days to get a National Library item from off-site storage.
Onlays
A decorative technique in bookbinding. Thin, variously coloured pieces of leather which can be pasted on to the leather cover.
Open collection
Collection of items held in areas of the Library that are open to the public. You can look at these items as soon as you come into the Library.
Open shelves
Storage areas where items you can use immediately are kept. Opposite of closed shelves, where items you need to ask to see are located.
Optical character recognition
Process of converting text information into a digital format, by recognising characters like alphabetical letters in a scanned image.
