Databases
Collection of data (or information) about items, information, or resources. Usually computerised. May contain digital copies of collection items, like pictures or sound files.

Information about collection items.
Descriptive cataloguing
The process of describing an item in the library's collection, and choosing access points to be listed on the catalogue.
Digital archive
Archive to take in, store, preserve, and make accessible digital material, using computer technology.
Digital copy
Digitised copy of a text document, sound recording, photograph, etc. created to increase access to the original material. Digital copies also allow the original item to be preserved and protected from damage. Most digital copies are available online, but some can only be accessed when you are physically in the Library due to licensing restrictions.
Digital library
Library in which many of the resources are available in machine-readable format (as opposed to print or microform), accessible by means of computers.
Digital repository
Organisation responsible for the long-term storage and maintenance of digital resources, and managing access to them. May also refer to the actual server the digital resources are stored on.
Digital resources
Resources like books, photos, sound recordings and so on that are in digital form.
Digitisation
Process of converting information into a digital format.
Directorate
Area of responsibility of a particular director in the Library.
Double keyboarding
A method for transcribing text, where two people type the text separately. These two versions are then merged, and any anomalies that emerge are checked by a third person and corrected if necessary.
